Terms of Use
The service
This server carries messages between devices. It is provided as it is, without a warranty and without a promise about uptime. It is a small independent service rather than an enterprise product, and we would rather set that expectation up front.
Your account
You are responsible for your password and for the devices you register. Because the keys live on your devices, we cannot recover your messages if you lose them. That is how the design works rather than something we have overlooked.
Acceptable use
Do not use this service to:
- break the law in your jurisdiction or ours
- harass, threaten, or stalk anyone
- distribute malware, or attack this service or any other
- send bulk unsolicited messages
We cannot read encrypted conversations, so we cannot moderate them. That is very much the intent of the design, and it is also its limit: anything we act on has to come from a report, or from what the server can actually see.
Suspension
Accounts may be suspended for abuse of the service or its infrastructure. Where practical we will say why.
Availability and changes
The service may change or stop. If this instance is going to shut down, we will give notice on this site. Because the server is open source and self-hostable, shutting down here does not end the software.
Liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of this service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
